That is perhaps the simplest wish of B.D. Nhi, a six-year-old girl who has been battling congenital heart disease since before she was born.
When Nhi's mother was 22 weeks pregnant, she was devastated to learn from doctors that her baby's heart had a serious condition. From that moment on, the family's journey became one of constant worry, uncertainty, and relentless efforts to give their daughter a chance at life.
Born with congenital heart disease, Nhi has spent much of her childhood undergoing medical examinations and treatments. While children her age enjoy learning, playing, and exploring the world around them, Nhi has become all too familiar with hospitals, medications, and painful medical procedures.
The family's financial situation has made the journey even more difficult. Nhi's father works as a construction helper with an unstable income, while her mother stays home to care for their newborn child. The family had previously borrowed VND 130 million to repair their severely deteriorated house, and the mounting medical expenses for Nhi's treatment have pushed them into even greater hardship.
In May 2025, Nhi underwent her first heart surgery at Hanoi Heart Hospital. Although the operation brought encouraging results, she still requires ongoing treatment and another important surgery in the future. This next procedure is crucial to improving her health and giving her the opportunity to live a normal life.
This year, Nhi is preparing to enter first grade. At an age when children should be excited about starting school, she instead faces hospital visits and medical treatments. Her dream is not a grand one, she simply hopes to be healthy enough to attend school, learn, and play with her friends.
