To pay for her husband's treatment during his final years and cover her children's medical expenses, Tuyen's mother was forced to sell the family's pig herd, their most valuable asset. The small amount of savings they had quickly disappeared under mounting hospital bills and daily living costs.

Today, she works as a daily laborer with an unstable income. Work is not always available, and many days she must stay home to care for her sick children or accompany them to medical appointments. As a result, the family constantly struggles to cover even their most basic needs.

What this mother hopes for most is not a comfortable life, but simply the chance for her children to continue receiving treatment and attending school like other children their age.
